I'm not really sure where this page is going to go yet. Reading other peoples journals online I haven't come across as many charitable/volunteer pages as you might expect. Africa, being a continent with so many poverty stricken countries could surely use help from us passing tourists. I know that most people going down to Africa, be it only as far as Morocco, tend to take pens, sweets, old clothes etc. and hand them out when visiting poorer areas. I know we'll take as many small charitable items as possible and hand them out, mostly in exchange for local food/services, to rural locals and nomads.

What I'm hoping to have on here is any help we can offer or give for the bigger picture. Will we be able to get involved and help in any local development projects? Will we be able to help any communities, such as help with an English class in a school?

Maybe helping won't be as easy as you might expect. Maybe we won't find any projects that could use a couple of volunteers. I don't intend driving around Africa trying to help everyone, but think it would be nice to help where it's needed.

I will also try and find any information on projects before we leave the UK. I expect pre-arranging volunteer work would prove more fruitful. Wandering aimlessly around the African bush might be a bit hit and miss.
