To begin with everything needed stripping out of
the box. There was lots of metal trunking, electric hook up points,
battery chargers, strip lights, sockets etc that all came out. Once
the box was empty I decided that the paint (which was old and flaking
off) needed to be striped off. A nasty job that I soon draughted Cally
in to help with, paint stripper really burns! I made the wrong choice
of protective clothing and soon realised that I'd have to put something
over my vest. Finally I gave the walls a quick sanding down so they'd
be ready for the insulation to be glued up.
The
empty box was now made up of a strong steel caged framework, aluminium
outer skin, plywood inner skin with rock-wool insulation filling the
cavity. It's the blank canvas that I would be able to work from.
