When
I started building the kitchen I didn't really know where to start!
I'd spent some time working on the layout but not how to construct it.
The layout we'd decided upon was to have the fridge under the worktop
next to the lounge, the oven to go under the worktop at the other end
and put the sink and hob somewhere in the middle. We already had the
240v AC safety and distribution boxes mounted on the back left wall
and this all needed a cupboard build around it. We also wanted some
over head cupboards going the length of the worktop.
The
first stage in building the kitchen, as the same as my other construction,
is building a timber frame to house all this. Points I needed to consider
before building:
- Worktop
height 900mm (for ergonomic reasons)
- Worktop
depth 600mm
- The
need to run wires, water pipes, gas pipes etc beneath the kitchen.
- To
make sure the over head cupboards aren't in the way of your head
whilst cooking.
To
begin the framework, I placed the fridge and oven roughly in the their
positions to give myself a better image of what needed to be done.
So
that's the basic frame structure. The next step is to construct the
housing for the oven and the water purifier under the sink. After the
framework inside's done i had to tidy up some of the wiring and plumbing.
Once that was taken care of it's ready to have the veneered plywood
fixed to the framework.
These
next pictures should be joined onto the back of the last one but I'll
do that another day. These are still the construction under way but
with the true shape of things to come.
